Zeezuiper is a Belgian-Dutch beer. It is brewed by the Scheldebrewery, established in Meer (a district of Hoogstraten). |
|
The founders of the Scheldebrewery had ties with the Dutch Bergen op
Zoom. The name refers to the "De Zeezuiper", a remnant of a vast natural
area and wetland area at the height of the Wouwse toll near Bergen op
Zoom. The area consists of ponds created by peat extraction and
forests. The beer is brewed since 1994. Originally the beer was also
called The Zeezuiper. In 2009 the name
was changed to Zeezuiper because no "the" there said. The label was
renewed right away. In 2010, the logo of the brewery adjusted. The label
on the bottles are two wild men, one with a crab on his toe. This is a
reference to Bergen op Zoom, the two wanted men in her arms and carries
the nickname whose inhabitants have crabs; moreover Krabbegat carnival
