| Westvleteren Trappist beer is brewed by the monks of the Abbey of Saint Sixtus of Westvleteren (West Flanders). |

| The beer is not sold to shops and restaurants and is only available at the abbey itself and in the café opposite the abbey (Café In de Vrede) officially.Still, the beer is sometimes in small quantities the way to shops and cafes. The monks can not always meet demand, but choose to keep their brewery small. |

| Westvleteren Twelve (10.2%) was the world elected several times by the international beer forum RateBeer best beer. Westvleteren Eight (8%) is on the 19th place on the same list. The Westvleteren St Sixtus Abbey was voted the fourth best brewery in the world. This created a run on the beers and it was even more difficult to obtain them. Due to the high demand and low supply is Westvleteren Twelve on sales sites like eBay for high prices, even though this goes against the express wishes of the abbey. |
