'n Toeback is brewed by the Scheldebrouwerij Meer, a borough of Hoogstraten. |
In 2009 the beer was launched under the name Straffe Toeback. To name a competition was organized. Out of about 250 entries Straffe Toeback was selected. A subtitle on the label "Quattro". That was another name that was presented in the game. This term indicates that the beer is stiffer than a triple. It is not a quadruple. After launching Brewery De Halve Maan protested the name because she felt that too much resembled its beer Straffe Hendrik. She pulled it to the court. In April 2011, both breweries came to an agreement: the Scheldebrouwerij changed the name of the beer in 'n Toeback. |
The original label of the beer was retained only the name changed. The label two wild men. This is a reference to Bergen op Zoom, where the brewery was originally located and the two wild men carries in her arms. The wild men go out with the tower of the St. Catherine's Church of Hoogstraten (where the brewery is now located). This tower is 105 m high and thus the third highest church tower in Belgium and one of the tallest brick tower in the world. |
